Old Town Scottsdale packs a surprising amount into about one walkable square mile: cowboy history, serious art, Arizona wine, great food and a lively evening scene. Park once, put on comfortable shoes, and you can spend a full day here without getting back in the car. Here is how our team would plan it.

On Saturdays from October through June, start at the Old Town Scottsdale Farmers Market for local produce, salsas, breads, honey and handmade gifts. Arrive early for the best selection.
Walk over to Scottsdale Civic Center, a green, shaded park full of public art, including Robert Indiana's LOVE sculpture. The Little Red Schoolhouse here holds the Scottsdale Historical Society Museum. At the south end, the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art (SMoCA) has rotating exhibits and a James Turrell skyspace that is worth the visit on its own.
Every Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m., galleries along Main Street and Marshall Way open their doors for Scottsdale ArtWalk. It is free, it has run for more than 45 years, and it is one of the nicest ways to spend an evening here. Many galleries host receptions and live music.
